Please note - If you are viewing the website using a laptop computer, (apart from the Apple laptop), the colors
portrayed are very poor. I have found this to be the norm after checking numerous lap tops. The older desktop
screens still seem to give the most accurate colors, so, when ordering, please read the descriptions of the stones.
It will help you somewhat with the colors and your decisions regarding purchase.


Some more of the superb Amethysts from both Uruguay and Brazil have arrived. We obtain these stones through the same contact as the Citrine, namely, one of the biggest buyers of Amethyst and Citrine in Brazil and Uruguay. Again, the material is sorted by myself and I select from large parcels.

Personally, I rather like the Brazilian rough. It shows a lovely, strong, saturated purple color, only slightly less intense than the Uruguayan stones. Rather nice rough when you need to cut a large stone that will not appear 'black' in color when finished. These stones can show some slight 'color zoning', but it is usually found near the edges of the crystal and normally will get ground away whilst pre-shaping.

The Uruguay rough is really beautiful with a stronger, rich purple color. Possibly some of the best Amethyst on the market at the moment but it still does not, in my opinion, beat the old Zambian rough we used to sell. On average, this rough tends to be crystal 'points' and is usually smaller than the Brazilian stones. However, take some care with this rough - larger stones may look a little too dark when cut.
